Summers is when you need to increase your fluid intake drastically. Your body needs additional fluid to keep functioning the way it needs to. These summer drinks are amazing for weight loss, boost metabolism, lose belly fat and for detoxification. Apart from tasting good, these drinks are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Barley Water
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup whole pearl barley
- 2 cups water
- Some ginger
- Chia seeds, fennel seeds
- Pink salt and lemon juice
- Some honey with mint leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Wash and rinse barley a couple of times
- Soak the barley in water for 4-6 hours
- In a pan, add 2 cups of water
- Add soaked barley and place the pan on heat
- Once it starts to boil, reduce heat and cook for 15-20 minutes
- Cover the pan, but don’t cover it fully as it may overflow
- Add ginger, cover and let it cook again
- Once cooked, let it cool down completely
- In a glass jar, add chia seeds, fennel seeds, pink salt and lemon juice
- Now strain the barley water into the jar
- Add honey and mix well
- Add more cold water if needed
- Leave for extra 30 minutes
- Garnish with mint leaves
Barley Tea / Coffee
Ingredients
- Some barley
- Honey
- Some cloves
- Ginger
Instructions
- Dry roast barley, start off with medium heat
- Then lower the heat so that the pearl barley roasts instead of burn
- Stir more frequently so that the pearl barley roasts evenly
- In a mortar and pestle, add roasted pearl barley and crush them
- Add water in a pan, place the pan on heat
- When the water starts to boil add all ingredients except honey
- Mix everything well, cover with a lid, let it steep for 2-3 minutes
- Strain the coffee and enjoy
- Add wild pure honey if you want to
Ash Gourd Juice
Ingredients
- 1/2 raw ash gourd
- 300 ml water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Pink salt to taste
- Mint powder
- Black pepper powder
- Honey
Instructions
- Peel the skin and remove seeds of ash gourd carefully
- Cut the ash gourd into small pieces
- Add the pieces into a blender with little water
- Blend it into a smooth puree
- Add rest of the water and blend again
- Strain it through a thick seive
- Consume the juice as it is, if you like
Gond Katira Juice
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp gond katira
- 1 tsp basil seeds
- Lemon juice, jaggery powder
- Pink salt, mint powder
Instructions
- Soak 1/2 tsp gond katira in 1/2 cup water in a bowl
- On soaking in water, it changes it’s appearance from being crystalline hard yellow gum to becoming like white jelly
- Soak basil seeds or sabja in water, soon they will start to absorb water and increase in size
- In a glass, add 1.5 tbsp of soaked gond katira
- Add lemon juice, jaggery powder, pink salt and mint powder
- Add some water and mix well
- Add soaked basil seeds on top, add cumin powder and mix again
- Add more water if required
- Serve immediately as mid meal or anytime snack
