These recipes provide all vitamins and minerals along with carbohydrates and essential amino acids as well. All these dishes are a balanced meal on their own. These recipes are light on stomach and easily digestible
Instant bajra breakfast smoothie
Ingredients
- 3-4 tbsp bajra flakes / pearl millet
- One banana
- Some ceylon cinnamon
- 1 cup plant milk or dairy milk (plant milk if vegan)
- 1 tbsp homemade protein powder
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp peanut butter (optional)
- 1 tsp jaggery (optional)
Instructions
- Add bajra flakes to grinder to make bajra powder (you can soak them for ½ hour in milk)
- Once done, start with adding some milk to the blender first
- Now add rest of the ingredients
- Add rest of the milk
- Add sweetner and peanut butter (if you wish)
- You can add other fruits as well but don’t use dairy milk with other fruits (specially with citrus fruits)
- Transfer the smoothie in a mason jar or glass
- Enjoy it as one of the best winter breakfast
Bajra appe / tikki
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup bajra daliya (to make cooked bajra daliya)
- 3-4 cup water
- 1 cup cooked bajra daliya
- Boiled potatoes medium size (2)
- 3 tbsp rice flour
- 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped carrots
- 1/4 cup chopped capsicum
- 1/4 cup fresh corn
- Spices of your choice
Instructions
- Wash and rinse bajra 2-3 times
- Soak the bajra daliya for minimum 20 minutes to 1 hour
- In a pan, add 2.5 cups of water
- Once the water starts to boil, add the soaked daliya
- Cook in low heat for 20-30 minutes
- Check and stir in between
- Once cooked, let it cool completely
- In a large bowl, add cooked bajra daliya with boiled potatoes
- Add all the spices and salt in the bowl
- Add the rice flour to the bowl and mic everything well
- Use hands to mash potatoes (you can use masher or grater as well)
- Add roasted peanuts into a grinder and roughly grind it
- Combine all the veggies into the bowl and mix everything well
- Grease your hands slightly and make little balls from the mixture
- Heat up an appe pan and add very little oil in mould
- Place the balls in the appe mould, reduce the heat to the lowest
- Cook till the lower surface becomes golden brown
- Turn each appe upside down and also to sides with a spoon or fork
- When they’re brown, remove them from the mould
- Serve them warm with your favourite chutney
Bajra khichdi
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup bajra daliya
- 1/2 cup split moong dal
- 1/4 cup brown rice
- Add all three in a large bowl
- Wash and rinse 3-4 times in plain water
- Soak in water and leave for 15 minutes to upto 1 hour
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1/2 cup broccoli
- 1/2 cup carrot
- Some fresh corn
- 1 chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped capsicum
- 2 medium sized tomatoes
- 3-4 finely chopped garlic cloves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tsp lite olive oil
- Spices as per your choice
Instructions
- In a steel kadai, heat oil
- Add chopped garlic, once they’re light brown, add the chopped onions
- Cook onions until they’re nicely brown
- Add salt to taste, coriander powder, spice mix and other spices as per choice
- Add all veggies except tomatoes and capsicum
- Mix everything well
- Add the soaked bajra, dal and rice mixture
- Add 4 times water and mix well
- Once the mixture starts to boil, cover and cook on low heat for 20 minutes
- Start checking after 15 minutes
- When the khichdi is about to be cooked, add chopped tomatoes and capsicum
- Cover and cook for another 3-4 minutes
Bajra mix veg soup
Ingredients
- 2-3 tbsp bajra flour
- 2-3 cup water
- Some green peas
- 1 large carrot
- 1/2 capsicum
- Some cauliflower
- 1/4 cup french beans
- 1 tomato (you can also add corns and mushrooms)
- 4-5 garlic cloves
- Pink salt to taste
- Chilli flakes
- Spiced mixed herbs
- Black pepper powder
Instructions
- Add some water to bajra flour and make a lump free paste
- In a bowl, add 1.5 cup water and heat it
- Once it starts to boil, add the bajra paste and mix it
- Cook bajra flour on low heat for 5-6 minutes and stri it continuosly
- In another pan, add some olive oil
- Add the chopped garlic and cook it until it turns brown
- Add beans and peas and cook on low heat
- Gradually add all veggies and cook on low heat
- Once the bajra is cooked, add the mixture to the veggies
- Don’t overcook the veggies, keep them crunchy
- Add more water as per requirement. Don’t add cold water
- Add tomatoes in the end to ensure they retain their texture
- Add chilli flakes and salt and mix well
- Cook until the mixture comes to a boil
- Add the mixed herbs, black pepper and spice mixture
- Transfer the soup to a serving bowl
