High Protein Millet Smoothie

Millet is a cereal grain of the Poaceae family, which is also known as the grass family.
Millet has grown in popularity as a gluten-free grain with high levels of protein, fiber, and antioxidants. There are several millets, all of them known for their incredible nutritional profile and health benefits.
This “Millet Smoothie” is packed with the goodness of “Barnyard Millet”.
Upma, khichdi, and pulao are all made using barnyard millets. We’re preparing a barnyard millet smoothie today since the whole grain has a high fiber level, and the millet has a high protein value, making it a great choice for people trying to lose weight or anyways as a healthy high protein drink as a snack.

INGREDIENTS

1Barnyard millet¼ cup
2Water3/4 cup
3Unsweetened Cocoa powder2 tsp.
4Soft dates3
5Chia seeds1 tsp.
6Dairy/ Plant milk300 ml
7100% Peanut butter1 tsp.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Soak the barnyard millet in water for a minimum of 3 hours to a maximum of 6 hours.
    • Note: Water added shall be 3 times the amount of millet added (1/4 cup barnyard millet+ ¾ cup water)
  2. In a pan, add water and soaked barnyard millet, and let that cook.
  3. Cover it with a lid in between and keep regular checks until properly cooked.
  4. In a blender, add milk, cooked barnyard millet, unsweetened cocoa powder, chia seeds, soft dates, and peanut butter. Pour some more milk on top of it.
  5. Blend it well.
  6. Transfer the smoothie into a serving glass jar, and top it off with some chia seeds.
